2024 Candidate for Franklin Public School Board
Greetings Franklin residents,
My name is Maqsood Khan, and I am honored to seek re-election to the Franklin Public School Board. It has been a privilege to serve as the board Treasurer and I'm excited to share our progress.
As a devoted husband and father of five, my commitment to our community stems from the belief that every child deserves an advocate who treats them as their own. Over the past few years, I have seen firsthand my children's diverse learning styles, dreams, and talents, and I promise to continue advocating for yours with the same dedication.
One of my key accomplishments during my tenure has been a relentless commitment to fiscal responsibility. When I was presented with a resolution proposing a 13.2% increase in the 2023 school tax levy, I took action and presented an amendment to decrease the proposed increase to 5%. This resulted in our ability to pay down the district's debts and improve the financial health of FPS. Balancing the budget is crucial, and I will continue to advocate for financial decisions that benefit our schools and taxpayers.
In May 2022, I was tasked to review the district's grading policy as the liason. After researching neighboring school district policies and speaking to FPS high school students, it was evident that our students were disadvantaged. Recognizing the need for fairness in grading policies, I worked with the administration for over a year to revise our grading policy. We successfully improved and revised the system, making it easier for our students to achieve higher grades aligned with regional standards.
Additionally, I have collaborated with the Administration to address teacher retention and support. A dedicated committee of teachers and administrators is working to find innovative ways to enhance teacher retention and provide the necessary resources for our educators. As a son of an educator, I understand the daily challenges and concerns of our teachers and teacher aids. I will continue to support them inside and outside the classroom.

I am a School Board member who values thorough consideration and believes in making decisions with clarity and the input of parents and teachers. I'm a hard worker dedicated to the continuous improvement of our schools and am eager to earn your vote on February 20th in the primary election and April 2nd in the general election.
